Yes, the gallery got robbed sometime during the night of June 1-2, 2011. Thieves broke through the deadbolt by peeling away the cool spotted leopard print trim that Sport painted and dug the deadbolt out of the wood. The thieves made away with mine and other artist's valuable jewelry. It is a sickening feeling that anyone would do that! And I guess it's a common occurrence to be targeted by the scumbag thieves that frequent the alley in Old Kapaa Town. Anyway, good that I have a handy husband who is amazing with tools and we've been doing our best at beefing up the security from theft ever happening again. Police found a guy that had some of my stolen goods in his backpack, but maybe less than 10%. So far the dude's not talking much. And things don't look promising according to the police. ![]() This month we opened a beautiful exhibit of porcelain sculptures by Licia McDonald on the first Saturday of this month called 'Life Forms'. If you haven't seen it, you should make a point to while it's up thru the end of August. Licia is a prolific artist who has a beautiful sensitivity for her materials, color and form. Her unique airbrush mat surface is rich and so enticing to touch that I often see people reaching in to feel them despite the gallery's request to offer assistance when handing. The music on opening night was toe tapping with the mauka billy, downhome DJ's from KKCR, The Malama Pono Allstars, well, not all of them are DJ's, but alot of them are part of our community radio station and donate their time generously, both to Alley Kat Art Walk in the alley and to our community radio station we all love. Fire dancing to these guys added a new hop and jump to our steps! Here are a few more photos from the opening night | AuthorAloha, I'm Kathy Cowan, the owner of Alley Kat Art.
